CRUISE MISSILE NIRBHAY LAUNCHED SUCCESSFULLY BUT FAILS TO HIT TARGET
India's first indigenously developed surface to surface Sub sonic cruise missile Nirbhay on March 12, 2013 failed to hit the target in its maiden flight as it has to be terminated midway after its deviating from the flight course.
However, the DRDO said that the missile successfully met the basic mission objectives and performed some of the manoeuvres satisfactorily before being terminated.
"Nirbhay was successfully launched from Launch Complex, Chandipur, Odisha, meeting the basic mission objectives successfully" DRDO spokesmen Ravi Gupta said.
The subsonic cruise missile has the capability of being launched from land, sea and air.
According to defence scientist, scientists on March 13, began the post-mission analysis of the fault.
